Bikendan is correct! The key to stability is first and foremost the truck/trailer combination not the hitch. The sway control on the hitch should be just an added measure of safety, not the only thing that keeps sway under control. Many miles have been logged on just a simple WDH without sway control, just because they’re inexpensive doesn’t make ineffective for the job at hand. FYI BlueOx is one that recommends turning off sway control on the vehicle and it’s considered a premium hitch. Because it applies a centering force the ESC detects this and can fight the hitch.

Agree that the Equal-I-Zer 4P is one of the good WD hitches, but Equal-I-Zer prices are higher now. List price is over $800 for the 90-00-1200. You cannot buy a new one with 1200 pounds TW rating for less than $500 from discount sources such as eTrailer or Amazon.

12 years ago was 2007. I paid less than $500 for my Reese Strait-Line Trunnion WD hitch back then, but they are over $800 discount price now.
