Default We Are The Problem

I got curious. Been watching the same 2016 F150 RCLB 4x4 XL 101A with 8.8" R. Axle being used as a fuel truck for 4 years (Fuels refrigerated trailers on site)

5 0V8 and 2300 lb Payload Sticker.

Gentleman I have discovered the cause of the payload problem. He is us.

EDIT: This was intended on a commentary on our tendency to manage to buy trucks with payload reduced to 1600 lb. This truck only has a 1,000 lb tank (Dual Pump 110 gal) and is well within payload.

Most people don’t even think about it.
or care.

I know a guy that does stone patios and retaining walls for a living.

He drives a RCSB Chevrolet half ton.

Multiple times every week he hauls pallets of stone in the bed that are 3000# or more.

Nose in the sky without a worry.

He only has a dual pump 110 gal so likely under a 1,000 lb total so I wasn't saying he was overweight. I was just commenting on his payload sticker on a standard GVWR truck. Compared to the common 1600 stickers seen here.

We used to have a guy come in and get two pallets of mulch loaded into the bed of a super cab f150 with a 6.5’ bed.
Half the second pallet would be resting on the open tailgate.

No straps at all, just drive off.

So the thread is commenting on how people buy trucks with too much payload? All the responses are the other way, too little payload.

It will say that when I see a grossly overloaded vehicle I give it a second look. If it looks like it's going to kill someone, I have called 911 before. If it's just stupid loading, I just laugh.

Obviously I didn't communicate well. I was commenting on our penchant to burn 700 lb of payload. I will try and fix the original post.

I see it everyday with Mexican yard crews and their overloaded 1/2t Chevy's.

On the plus side, you can only accelerate so fast...

I've never understood overloading and clapping out an expensive vehicle in a few years like that. You can get a 3500lb trailer for damn close to $1000, near half that if used. Let the trailer take the load! The truck lasts a lot longer, and you save a lot of money.

But, I know some people are literal idiots. I've seen contractors drop trailers with a piece of equipment (that the crew takes off immediately), to go grab 3500lb of bricks. They two minutes they save by dropping the trailer must count towards payload points.

People are not all that smart. My next door neighbor goes 6 mi each way through town and spends 25 minutes driving to save $0.05 a gal on gas.

$1.00 for 12 miles of city driving worth of fuel and wear and tear plus 25 minutes of your life. I think I'll buy the expensive gas.
