I used to have an 24 ft. travel trailer that weighed about 4000lbs empty and about 5000lbs fully loaded (only had 1 trip where I loaded it up this much). When I bought my truck the towing capacity was 9300lbs-so I had plenty of wiggle room. I also bought a 10,000lb WD hitch system. This gave me plenty of spring tension on the bars, and I never had to worry about being overcapacity. I was able to use the stock shocks/springs w/o any problems. I believe in having a large safety factor for reserve GVW and it served me well w/o any problems. I feel you have a bit more trailer than your truck can handle safely and that is part of your problem. I've seen way too many rigs that were maxxed out on weight due to trailers/5th whls being too heavy/big.

Sweet Lou, your hitch should have come with an instruction manual. Have you referred to it? If you don't have one, get one. It's probably available online. I'm not getting in to this again but listen to acdii. If your truck and trailer isn't level with a properly set up WDH, than you're out of spec for your truck and refer to acdii.
