Default Trailer Brake Delay

I changed the brakes on my MXT-303 RV. While I had it off the ground, I had my wife apply the brake. There was about a 5 second delay before the brake stopped the RV wheel. If she uses only the OEM brake controller, instant stop. Why would there be a delay?

Braking effort is proportional. So if you are driving at 50, more effort is sent vs at 5. The controller lever overrides that.

You should reset the controller setting with new trailer brakes, per your manual.

Your using the factory installed brake controller that varies brake signal strength to the trailer based on truck speed and pedal effort? The truck was parked? Just a guess but I think that's why they applied so slowly using the brake pedal.

I just went through this - the OEM controller, at least on my 2012, uses the pressure sensor in the ABS module for the signal to apply the trailer brakes. Do you have service brakes and traction control warning lights? If so you may need a new ABS pump (HCU) to make the oem brake controller work.
