Trailer brake controllers
I have a 2016 F150 XLT and need a brake controller.I'm getting mixed unclear response
from dealer to question of any Ford programming needed to make aftermarket controller work when installed using Ford harness adaptor no. FL3T-15A416-AB. They say they're not sure if aftermarket brake controllers need dealer programming. Any experience with this? I haven't bought an aftermarket unit yet.
Dealer quotes $400.00 +Tx. to purchase and install the OEM version.

You can buy the OEM version for $90 plus shipping from a Ford dealer, plug it in yourself, and either use FORScan to program it or a dealer. Some dealers will charge a reasonable rate, some won't.
The quote for $400 was from a dealer looking to rip you off.
OEM integrates with the truck's software.

Read the first post on this thread that has a tutorial, explains what adapter to buy, etc. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/forsc...8/#post4791312
I bought the elm adapter with OEM Trailer brake and enabled it with forscan. Forscan is awesome! I've turned off auto start, enabled fog and highs to be able to work at the same time and turned on the ability to roll down windows with the fob. Helped my brother out and saved him a trip to dealer with it as well. Best free app out there!
[QUOTE=Ricktwuhk;5794741]Unless you bought it from a Ford dealer, don't know why you'd buy it on Ebay. Hopefully you bought the right part number.
I bought it on eBay to save $$ - most other posts on the forum recommended doing so, I'm guessing it will save $30+ not buying at the dealer so why not buy NEW OEM elsewhere? I'll check out the link, I just assumed there was only one part number for my model/year.
