Default Trailer Brake Controller Problems

I have a 2018 F150 Lariat FX4 4x4. I recently installed an aftermarket trailer brake controller and had battery drain issues from the start. Another forum suggested removing the fuse for the controller as an interim fix. I do this when no towing.

The issue I'm having is that the controller manual squeeze button works, but the brake peddle does not. The controller is recognized by the truck after being programmed and I can even adjust the gain. I've tested every gain setting and nothing seems to help. What is the difference between the manual squeeze switch on the controller and the brake peddle? Is there another software setting that needs enabling?

Please suggest possible fixes or things to try or test.

Paul

Time and time again this question pops up. The issue is the aftermarket controller. Get the oem Ford one. It’ll run you over $100 but it’ll work.

Many issues with the cheap $30 knock off.
