Default Trailer Brake Controller issues

I running on my second "OEM" trailer brake controller in my 2015 F-150 SuperCrew XLT, and I'm having the same issues. I don't see any change on the gain (in dash) when applying the brakes and I get this weird pulsing of the trailer brakes as I slow down below 25 mph (it tends to hit the brakes hard at 25, 15, 10, and 5 mph). I purchased the TBC on eBay, installed it myself, and programmed it with FORSCAN (basically just turned it on). The brakes work, but I can't seem to solve the lack of visible gain in the dash or the pulsing below 25 mph. I verified with my travel trailer dealership and its not the trailer. They attached that trailer to another truck and it worked normal.

When I took it to a Ford dealership to reflash the TBC (based on suggestions in this forum), they said they couldn't see the controller. FORSCAN worked when I turned on the TBC, but Ford can't see it with their system. I assume it is a Chinese knockoff and not truly OEM, but I want to cover my *** before I spend $230 for a TBC from the Ford dealership. Add another $160 for Ford to update the software (that's what an Alabama Ford dealership wants to charge).

Recommendations? Did I program the TBC wrong with FORSCAN? Is there another place where I can get a real OEM TBC for cheaper? Installing the TBC is no problem and I've done it twice now, so I'm not going to let them charge to pull the dash apart. I attached a picture of the sticker on the "OEM" TBC box.

Thanks for the help!

I too think that you may have gotten a knock-off, return it as defective, if they want to charge you tell your credit card company, they'll fix it. I'm cheap, I would try Tasca then if it didn't work go the Ford route.

never seen a box with so much Chinese writing that wasn't a China knockoff.

This one I bet works properly.

I need to stop being a cheap *** when it comes to electrical components. I bought a new one from Fairway. I doubt I can get my $90 from that "Chinese" eBay seller because I bought in July '21

What's the difference between the module and the TBC?

I believe the module controls the lights and works with the brake controller

I bought one from Fairway Ford. There’s an obvious weight difference between the Chinese knockoff and the real Ford OEM. I installed the new one and it works way better. No need to have Ford program it because FORSCAN worked.

I wonder if the Ford OEM is heavier because there are real parts inside it? LOL

I assumed the “made in China” sticker would have added some extra weight, but I guess not…
