Probably a good choice on the 5.0 rather than the 2.7 (not because I think the 2.7 is a poor engine choice) because most of the 2.7's I've seen have had a GVWR of 6500 rather than the 7000 that the 5.0 will have. In a similarly configured truck that's an extra 500lb of payload available (minus any difference in engine weight assuming the 5.0 weighs more).

Think you can get the 2.7L Payload package to make up the difference though.

But I do love the Reg Cab. We're looking at them ourselves for the next truck. The kids are long gone, and far away. Don't need the SCrew for sure, and probably don't need the SCab either. A Reg Cab, perhaps an F150 with HD Payload, might just be fine.

With the short wheelbase, they won't be as smooth on the highway, but they'll be a lot more manoeuvrable in campgrounds and malls.

Yeah, you can add the payload package, you just have to know to add it...

Just wanted to add, I don't even own a trailer right now and for now this truck will be 95% just a daily driver. I was just making sure that if I needed to tow my car someday that I could do so.

Hell, I may not even have the truck if the dealer doesn't agree to my price.

Well I may be going with the 3.73s now since I realized they are only a $150 option with the 5.0 V8 option. Waiting for confirmation from the dealer though.

edit: well 3.73s are only available for 4x4 configuration. Since I am building a 4x2, will will have to be 3.55s.

Would this be enough to tow my mustang which weighs probably 3600-3700lbs in an open trailer? I don't plan to tow a lot but just in case I want to tow my car or another in the future I wanted to know if it would work.
Get the 5.0. NO problem towing that weight...plus Youll have your sweet V8 sound and you won't get any worse MPG than the 2.7 day to day. Plus when you're towing you'll get a little better MPG with the 5.0 than the little 2.7 cause it's gonna be boosting its ***** off the whole time. (The inherent problem with MPG towing with EB)

However, I'd highly consider 3:55 gears. Best compromise.

Good luck!

Yup went with the 3.55s and the 5.0. I don't tow much if at all, but nice to know I can tow some if I decide to later down the line.

Good choice bro! Put some MagnaFlows (or your fav exhaust of choice) on that thing and ENJOY!

Good luck!

Bad thing is, there are no cat backs for a regular cab with a 122 wheelbase. I was looking around. Yeah I could do a custom but exhaust shops I have been to in the past don't use stainless steel.

Yeah, I haven't messed with cat backs since my 06 F150. I'm not into getting everything I can out of my trucks anymore. When I do put a muffler on, I just throw a 14" MagnaFlow on it and call it good. Great sound and slight throttle improvement. Great bang for the buck.
