Towing MPG - Ouch.

Thanks Smokey .. Last haul was down toll130 from Round Rock to San Antonio and back. Not quite hill country but lots of slow ups and downs. Taking her out to Marble Falls for the 4th then down to Fredsrickburg for a couple days. Looking forward to seeing how she handles the Hill Country.
Im estimating Im just under my payload capacity with the family on board. Got to make a trip to the scales soon to verify but havent had anything close to an issue while towing.

New to trucks and towing in general. I was expecting slightly better MPGs than what the truck is reporting. Across sloping terrain(not full on hills) , Im getting around 9-10 MPGs. Wind not a factor, running with 93 octane at around 60-65 MPH.
2016 Lariat 3.5 EB screw, 3.55 with Max Tow package. Payload capacity per door is 1652#s. On my third 100 mile tow of our 32 ft ultra light trailer (6800#s wet/loaded). Equalizer WDH hitch.
Does the 9-10 MPG sound right? My expectations were closer to 12-13 MPG.

Ecoboost gets around 9 - 10 mpg while the 5.0L gets 1 mpg better at 10 - 11 mpg.
Haven't towed much with new F150 but previous 2012 F150 in my signature, I usually got 10.5 to 11 mpg.
12 -13 mpg pulling a travel trailer with any half ton truck is a pipe dream, sorry.
You can get better mpg with a F250 Diesel but the savings in mpg will get ate up quickly by the $8,000 Diesel engine charge, and the more expensive diesel fuel, and the higher maintenance cost.

Just posted this elsewhere on the forum but here it is for your info too. I was running 70 mph most of the time and getting 8.5-9. ~3500 lb trailer about the same mileage loaded and unloaded. 5.0 with 3.55s.

While I routinely get at least 14MPG pulling my trailer with my 2010 F150 5.4 V8, my truck is two wheel drive and my trailer is small (17 foot Casita). Did a 5,000 mile trip recently.
I use 87 octane.

Just finished a 3500 mile New England trip. Averaged about 10.5 mpg on interstates and state highways. I was happy with the mileage. I've had an Eco with 3.31 and now 3.73. It takes so much fuel to move so much weight and frontal area. You're right on the mark.

I get about 12.5 with a 3000# cargo trailer, 3.5 EB with 3.55 gears. I get about 10 with my 20ft cargo trailer weighing about 5500#.
