Default Towing Issues

I have a 2017 F150 ecoboost 3.5l with the max towing package. Max towing is 12,200 lbs and max hitch is 1,200 lbs. My new RV has a GVWR of 10,500 lbs and a tongue wight of 1,155 lbs. I have a 12,000 lbs sway control hitch. Only pulled trailer one time and ride was very bumpy and rough. Trailer and truck were not level. This is a rear toy hauler but my bike was not loaded. A new truck is not an option at this time. I have heard that rear suspension bladders will correct this issue but I would like your input. If they will help which brand/model do you suggest? Thanks.

Payload? What size bars do you have? You need to go to a scale and get actual numbers.

My payload capacity is 1,400 lbs. Bars? The sway bar system support up to 12,000 pounds.

I can almost guarantee that you've blown through your payload. Load the bike to leverage some tongue weight back to the trailer. Exactly what hitch are you running and what model travel trailer? You need to find a scale and get actual weights.

The Weight Distributing Hitch should level out the truck and trailer for the most part IF the WDH is setup properly. No bouncing, no porpoising.
Download your WDH manual, review some Utube videos on setting up a WDH, and make sure it is or correct it to the proper setup.

I don't think you understand how payload works. Max trailer weight isn't your issue. You've busted payload long before you get to the 'max trailer weight' in ford's specs. Read your owner's manual

At GVWR of the trailer based on the weight you provided, tongue weight would be between 1,300 and 1,500lbs. Dry weight is a meaningless number. Add another 100lbs for the WDH itself and you're at 1,400-1600lbs tongue weight. That busts your payload in your empty truck without driver, passengers, or cargo. That also means you've busted thru the truck's GVWR.

You either need a much smaller camper, or a gasser F250 with the payload to support what you want to tow. Throwing the bike in the back of that bumper pull toy hauler is gonna make for a hairy towing experience, too.

If a new truck isn't an option, is downgrading your RV an option? That payload of yours is your main issue but you got lots of options i.e don't bring your toys along, nothing in the bed, maybe trade your truck in for an older 250 gas or find a 150 HDPP? I'm not very good about bags and such so others here may have more input. Best of luck and safe travels.

nothing he does to the truck will increase payload capacity. Everything he adds, like springs/airbags/etc, will actually reduce it. All those things do is cosmetically level the truck.

A new truck is not an option and the RV is brand new so it can’t go either. I will try the suspension bags and hope for the best until I can get a new truck. Thank you.

Thanks I will review the manual. I had the hitch installed at the dealership so hopefully they did it correctly. I will also invest in the suspension bladder as it is not a costly investment. Thanks again.
