Default Towing Calculator

I created a towing calculator in excel and have been using it to fuss around with stuff. I am versioning it, so if anyone sees any mistakes I might have made, I can correct it.I attached the xls sheet.

It is very basic, please double check your math and towing information, before you attempt to tow something.
  • All bold Column B fields are calculations, feel free to adjust any non-bold items for your vehicle and what you are towing.
  • The Buffers (in red) list how much of a buffer you have for vehicle payload, towing, and hitch.
  • If any Buffers are a negative number, then you can't tow it.
  • The closer the Buffer number is to zero, the less margin for error you have and less "safe" it is.

Thanks! I'll check it out.

I forgot I had the book, it looks like the max payload is 2,060 lbs.

that's the max payload available for that configuration. Every truck has a different payload specific to it's options. The truck-specific PL is listed on a yellow sticker on the driver's door jamb.

Where do I find the GCWR for my truck? I don't see it on either driver door sticker.

Rough ballpark - I think specific options will alter this figure a little.
