Surface rust on hitch
When I first got my truck the hitch had VERY light surface rust on it. So I sanded and painted it with brush on rustoleum. Everything still looks great besides the inside of the hitch because whenever I tow something the paint is rubbed off. Any one have some ideas on how to stop it? Also the pin is not what causes the problem.

The receiver rubs the inside of the hitch so the only way to stop it from rusting would be to stop towing.
Just clean it up and spray some more paint on it.

That is what I have been doing for a month or so. It gets old and was hoping for something that would last longer.

Canuck with a truck
I would'nt bother painting the receiver, i don't think i've ever seen a receiver that didn't have surface rust on it. It would be pretty much impossible to prevent that issue, with the little bit of play between the Hitch and the receiver it will wear away about any coating you put on there with the jerking back and forth motion of a trailer.

Also oiling it down, a little motor oil on it will darken up the rust metal and help keep it from rusting as fast. I level my tri-ball in all the time now and it gets rusty and the shoe on the trailer tongue does not like to slide on it well so i have started droping a little oil on the ball and te shank and then just wipe the oil around to cover all the metal. It seems to be working great, particularly in the winter with all the snow and salt.
