I would not want 5-1/2' more back there with the 145" WB. Also your 7500lbs dry will more than likely turn into 8500lbs loaded. Seems like a lot to put 1000lbs into a TT, but it's crazy how all the little things add up. With an 8500lb TT your tongue weight will end up being close to a 1000lbs with propane, batteries and stuff in the front cargo bay and also the 100lbs for the WD hitch. Probably more like 1100lbs. Now add the weight of everybody traveling and what other gear you'll put into the truck and you are out of the maxtow range and need to get into the HD package range, that will give you 22-2300lbs for payload. By going to an F250 you'll not only get more stability but payload as well. That 1 ton will spoil you. Happy camping. An F250 Crewcab with 6.5 box would be a great tow rig. Room for everyone and very stable.
X2. Wheelbase alone is a major factor.

Im definitely going to go with the f-250 over the ecoboost. Im sure the EB CAN handle it, but I want to be re-assured. Pretty sure im going to go with the gas version also.

That's a wise decision IMO.
Make sure to look at the payload with the F-250 also before signing on the dotted line - there are differences, and some have a (fairly) low payload (for a 3/4 ton that is). So make sure what you get is good.
If it was me, our family, our gear and that trailer, I would target a 2,600 - 2,700 lbs payload at the minimum to be on the safe side.

Congrats on the trailer, and happy camping!

Default Bow tie guy looking at Eco Boost for better gas milage on towing 30 " travel trailer

Hi Ford Fans, Been a bow tie guy since I got my papers 40 years ago. However i am Irish Catholic. (strike two) i bought a 30 ft. tt and it is 6800 dry. i also bought a chevrolet 2500 HD with about 11,000 gvw range. the gas milege is bad. I get about 7 mpg towing and about 14 with out towing.

One of the guys I work with has been talking up the EB.
Question does any one have an average mpg towing with the EB????? The local dealer has a line on a 4 wd crew cab with 6.5 bed 3.73's and max tow package. i am BEGGING for better Mileage.!!

Any help for a possible convert??

Thanks, Mike

Well since I stopped looking at this thread I have talked to two more guys who tow my size camper with an f150 ecoboost and swear up and down it doesnt bother it one bit. I might just go with a LOADED FX4 ecoboost. Max tow and payload, should be no problem. As far as towing gas mileage im not sure, but i hear its not bad!

I'm really sorry to tell tou this but a 7500lbs dry TT will indeed bother any F150. Someone saying a 8500lbs (ready to camp) trailer doesn't bother a bit is plain lying. I'm not saying it will not work, it will work just fine IMO but it will definitely bother your truck more than a bit. Even the 400lbs/tq engine will feel it quite a lot but again, it will work just fine.

And yes, gas mileage is will vary from bad to worst

Also, you know you can't get an FX4 with HD payload right?

Good luck

I think you will see a few mpg gain in towing as well as your daily driving I would think a 20-30% gain across the board which would fair. I've towed short distance w a 28ft TT really just a shake down run and I saw 9.6 mpg I have 3.73 screw 4wd fx4. Regular driving I'm averaging 17.6 more city than hwy. on hwy runs at 65-70 I'm sitting rt at 21. I live in flat land outside of Chicago. I'm leaving Monday morning to mackinaw so I will get my towing mpg more in check then but from everything I've read it should be in the 10-11 range. I would say its worth your want. Every tank you tow you will go at least 100 miles further and even more when not towing. That 6.0 you have is a good motor but a thirsty one my friend. Your doing better on Dailey than anyone I know with one they are begging for 12 mpg

I second what Magblue10 said...I am by STL on flat ground and my results are in line with his all way around.

I picked up my tt last night. Towed it home from the deslership with my work truck. It's a 2009 gmc 3500 dually with the 6.0 or 6.2 gas. This truck handled the trailer very well. Did I know it was there absolutely!!!! But I never felt uncomfortable towing. Towed it about 45 miles pretty much all highway and hilly. I did buy the stabilizer and anti sway and they hooked it up for my truck.

I will say I am a bit shocked and glad I havent made a decision on an f150 vs f250 yet. My dually was very stable pulling the tt but it did NOT have enough power.... It felt like it really worked the truck a lot! I was trying to hold 65-70 mph and the truck did it but it was constantly shifting down and really revving on any uphill grade at all. Maybe the gearing in this truck just isn't setup for towing? But I was shocked at how hard the motor worked to pull this. Had one very steep long hill and I had to horse the truck to maintain 60 mph up the hill.

I really didn't want to have to buy the f250 diesel but now I'm thinking it might be essential!

Well one thing you might want to take into consideration is the fact that the dually you are pulling with weighs a lot more than an F150 does with a motor that is similar in power. When you look at power to weight ratio the EB is far ahead. The dually would be more stable because of the 4 wheels back there. That gasser dually is way under powered. I hope this makes sense. The motor has to move the truck and the trailer and the dually is way more in weight hence less power to pull the trailer. You know how it feels to drive that dually empty since its your work truck. Try stopping by a ford dealer and drive the EB and you will see a substantial diff. I had an 09 F250 w the 5.4 and a 10 F150 w the 5.4 and there was a lot more power in the 150 because if I remember rt the 250 was a few thousand more pounds By the way congrats on the TT
