Ford never should have separated the MaxTow from HD Payload. Or at least they should have put the HD suspension bits into MaxTow and just left the HD axle and 7 lug wheels with HD Payload.

As for my next truck, well, I'm so happy with this one now that it'll be a long time before another comes along. And who knows what will be available then?

You won't see that pkg unless you choose 3.73 limited slip axle in an earlier screen.

With EcoBoost engine and 6.5 or 8' bed, if you choose 3.73 limited slip axle, the screen with "packages" will show both the HD Payload pkg and the Max Tow pkg.

With EcoBoost engine and 6.5 or 8' bed, if you choose 3.73 e-locker axle, the screen with "packages" will show Max Tow pkg, but no mention of HD Payload.

With EcoBoost engine and 6.5 or 8' bed, if you choose any ratio other than 3.73, then you won't see either the HD Payload or Max Tow pkges.

...then noticed the 5.5' bed had a payload of 1930lbs and the 6.5' had a payload of 2300lbs, so it looks like the HD payload is default on it now.
Nope, not default. Requires 3.73 LS axle, which is not available on a SuperCrew shorty or SuperCab shorty. And 2300 is probably the max to pkg and not the HD payload pkg

How does it ride with the roadmaster active suspension deal? I was looking at that but interested on feedback. Does it help with axel wrap if you get some wheelspin or does it still hop? And if your unloaded is it stiffer than stock in the rear?

Thanks for the clarification. I did, in fact, select the 3.73 E-locker, but now curious about the 2300 lb payload on Max Tow for Screw 6.5' bed. Does that mean the HD Payload is not necessary with that configuration?

To be honest, I'm not sure if I've ever experienced axle wrap. But there is another thread or two here on RAS reviews that you can search for, and yes it apparently stops axle wrap and wheel hop. It also reduces sway when hard cornering under load or not. And wheel hop and "skittering" on rough pavement is improved too. So both loaded and unloaded, the truck handles better with RAS. It does feel a little stiffer unloaded, but I like it better that way, and it's still more comfortable than my old truck which was a real "neck-jerker" unloaded (but fine when loaded).

I've got my RAS set to max which lifts the rear about 1". If that bothers you, there are other rear end suspension products out there (SuperSprings, Timbren) that have no effect until the stock suspension sags onto them. And there's also adjustable air bags. But I don't think any of these will help with axle wrap especially when unloaded.

And I do think you'll want HD shocks to go with any of these. LT tires will help stiffen the suspension too.

2300# payload with a Screw 6.5' sure sounds like the HD Payload (+MaxTow) option. At least in 2011 and 2012 models.

No, it means my guess as to the weight of the late-model F-150s was off. I thought they weighed about 5,400 or 5,500 pounds, but Ford's towing guide shows they weigh about 6,000 for an EcoBoost 4x4 with 6.5' bed.

With a GVWR of 8,200 and an empty weight of 6,000 pounds, that leaves 2,200 for the max payload with the HD payload pkg. That could be 2,300 because of rounding.

But then if your empty truck weighs 6,000 pounds, then the other numbers don't make sense. What is the GVWR of your truck? If it's 8,200, then you have the same GVWR as the HD Payload pkg and the 2300 pounds payload rating makes sense. If it's 7,700 or so, which it should be with Max Tow but without HD Payload, then your 2,300 payload doesn't make sense.
