Default shock Size

2013, 5.0, 3.73, screw, 2wd., Firestone air bag helpers.
When towing I'm getting to much bounce. Going to install new shocks, but should I install the 4x4 shocks. I know my truck sits slightly higher than other 2WD's.

There are cheap shocks, decent shocks, and really good shocks. I insist on the really good ones for my F-150. I have a 2012 F-150 SuperCrew 2-wheel drive. I ordered shocks from www.ShockWarehouse.com and had my local Midas Man install them. Wonderful experience.

But then the Midas man will have a surprise for you. Your front shocks are not just shocks, they are the shock part of your front struts (front coil springs with the shocks inside the coils). So the labor cost for installing the Bilsteins in the front struts is high. They have to depress the front coil springs to R&R the shocks, and that's a difficult job. Don't try to DIY unless you are experienced and have the equipment to R&R front coil springs.

thanks for reply. Bought Rancho 9000's for rear also got the Hellwig sway bar. Both installed and trailering is far better. Thought I was going to put same shocks on front until I saw responses. I'm happy for now.

I have same truck just '14. I also have Rancho 9000's and sway bar. Makes big difference...No bounce.

How's the ride affected when you're not towing? Curious how heavy of a rig you're towing also. I get some bounce in my 15 2WD SuperCrew when towing our travel trailer.

I have 18" E-rated Michelin M/S 2 tires so its firm which I like. I set shocks at "5" then "9" while towing. Never tried "2". The sway bar stops lean in curves and corners didn't hurt ride. The bounce bothered me even when not towing. Shocks were not controlling the rear end, too soft. Not a problem for me to adjust a few times a year and I'm 75. I toke off shock adjusters (torx screwdriver) and lubed with Fluid Film so they would not seize.

I'm towing 24' 5.5k trailer with dropped axles so it's low (Holiday Rambler). Truck and trailer track very well. I tow long trips (6k in 4 weeks) so it must drive well.

Make sure your stock truck and trailer tires are at max sidewall pressure while towing.

I'm 4x4 super cab so ours ride will be different, I like the shocks even if I didn't tow.
