Default RV cable too short

Anyone have to extend their 7 way rv cable to reach the F150 7 way socket?

The RV 7 way cable reaches and connects to the F150 socket. After making a turn in the parking lot to check things out, the plug disconnected from the socket. Seems that the RV cable is too short. With our previous tow vehicle it has been fine for the past 16 years, now is is too short. From the connection box under the trailer to the connector it is 8 ft.

Does anyone have to use an extension cable or what have you done?

Seems odd to be that short that it can't extend up and forward a few inches more, but seen stranger things(not just the Netflix show either). Sounds like you just need to get a new cable and replace it.

I added a carabiner to my truck and that solved the problem.

That's not going to help with wiring. If you use a carabiner for the trailer's 'oh ****' chains, make sure they're rated the same as the chains. They won't do any good if they're just going to snap and let the trailer loose.

I pulled the wrong word. I used Everbilt Quick Links, used to join a chain.

My same comment still applies, just make sure the quick links have a working load that's higher than the tow chains. My trailer's chains I think are 10k lb chains so you'd need a fairly large quick link. Personally, I use rigging shackles, they have the rating stamped on the shackle itself.

Stainless steel ones are rated at 25k pounds...plus it only needs to support the tougher weight ~1000 pounds. Breakaway cable will hit the breaks.

Lets stay on track. As mentioned before this has nothing to do with the wiring. OP asked about wiring.

I would suggest tracing the pigtail and see if there is anywhere you could gain a little slack. If not then you'll probably have to go the route of the extension cable.

Sorry, misread. I was thinking the break away switch was too short. My Bad.
