I rat bagged my poor little truck! Well I am definitely impressed with how well it did over weight.. I will refrain from doing that in the future... Probably causes a lot of added stress on the suspension and drivetrain that I don't need to wear out. Thanks for everyone's input I will definitely have to go through some proper calculations rather than trusting google specs for future pulls... I don't think that trailer alone is an issue, but the trailer and quad combo is clearly too much...

Congrats on your purchase.

Didn't take long for the weight police to rain on your parade, but as you found out these trucks do not explode into a mushroom cloud killing everyone within a 10 mile radius if you overload them a bit.
Safe travels and if I may suggest don't pay too much attention to online forums because as we all know,

The quad is 800lbs wet... Tongue weight of roughly 700lbs... People and cargo roughly another 700lbs... Total 2200lbs being generous... I am still under that 3230 lbs... ??
You can’t ignore the fine print! One truck, you might have. If you have a SCrew 6.5’ bed. The other doesn’t even come with an EcoBoost engine and definitely doesn’t have a back seat in it. (3,230# payload rating)

While this is true regarding being a bit overloaded on occasion, I don’t really get the flippant mindset about this scenario.

My employer’s company truck is an ‘04 SCLB 4.6 Heritage body. It’s definitely paid the price for pulling well beyond it’s ratings (without a TBC -> “Oh, that’s what those are for?”) in the form of a new set of tires and shocks recently, brakes and front end all around this week.

Quite frankly, while we can deal with the expense, all that happened before it was time, IMHO. I’d rather burn cash on more enjoyable stuff.

One could argue I would be burning my cash on my enjoyable stuff by taking the quad and enjoying the time we put on it.. Put over 300km on that sucker and saw some pretty awesome back country that a truck wouldn't get me into.

Regardless, I was happy the truck handled it very well this trip, I certainly learned some stuff today and will have to figure some things out for future trips going forward...

I wouldn't lose any sleep about going over rated weight limits. As someone said earlier, it didn't explode, and you were happy with the performance to boot! Maybe not the best idea running it over it's rated limit often, but that doesn't sound like the case.

When I was a kid (late 70's south Florida) we didn't have much money, but we got this sweet used 21 foot Dusky deep-V open fisherman boat through a work deal, and since my dad only had a late 70's Toyota Corolla station wagon at that time, that's what we towed the boat with for a couple years. I remember thinking it looked ridiculous, but so what we were going fishing. People might have laughed at us on the highway, but when we came back into the marina and thay saw what was in our coolers they quit laughing because we always caught more fish than everyone else. We made due with what we had and got by just fine.

One of the extremely rare instances where exceeding the "payload" actually did result in an exploding truck....
“Based on information gathered at this point, it is believed that the net explosive weight placed into the [vessel] exceeded its rated capacity,” Moore said.

Ah, the 70's, when every fifth vehicle wasn't blowing by you at 85mph, weaving in and out of traffic, crossing multiple lanes at once, and occasionally using the shoulder as their personal lap time lane.

Best to make your combo as safe as possible, because that girl anger texting her boyfriend isn't going to make it safe for you.

Leave the quad at home and I bet you are fine with that setup. I’m not a big fan of the weight police either if you are making a short trip on back roads but in your case it’s just too much over.

The cooling issues seem to pop up with people at higher elevations. 5000+'. I have not really heard of anyone complaining on the coasts or in the coastal ranges.

The 2018+ max tow trucks do have a decent sized radiator and, unless pushed to the limits at high elevation and temperatures, they seem to do ok.

Also, at least on my 2014, the coolant gauge on the dash won't move until the coolant has hit 231F. So it can be quite hot and you wouldn't even know without a device reading the actual temperature for you. When I towed my trailer the first time it was in Idaho on a 100F day and I climbed a pretty short hill and hit power reduction mode about half way up. The truck didn't make a peep or display any kind of warning other than the temp gauge silently creeping to the right. I was focused on the road and was not looking at the dash.
