Anyone know what is the normal operating temperature for the rear differential?

If your diff is getting hot, your most likely low on gear lub. Check the gear lube level by removing the fill plug and sticking your finger in. The lub should be just below the edge of the plug hole. The plug is located drives side front of the dif just above the gusset on the diff casting. FYI, limited slips need a friction modifier, and the use a specific synthetic gear lube and weight. Believe it or not I found the lube to be cheaper from my dealer then after market stuff online or from my local shop.

Laser infrared from China Freight.

I used to worry about such, but not since I realized there have been tons of HD trucks through the ages run zillions of miles in iron diffs with no problem.

Just make sure you keep good juice in the pumpkin.
