Default Pulling a trailer questions

I may need to get a 10,000lb travel trailer and pull it 400 miles. I have a 2012 EcoBoost Fx4 without the trailer brake controller. Will I be able to do it with my truck? I was told that they can provide me with the swaybar stuff. I have never pulled anything with my truck (or any other truck unless you count the uHaul trailer I pulled with the Lightning 20 miles).

Can/should I do it with my truck?

I would defiantly get a trailer brake controller before you do it otherwise it should handle it

I'm not so sure that your truck will want to pull a 10,000lb Travel Trailer. I know that it is rated to, but in my opinion. 400 miles is a long way and you have to take into consideration the wind resistance. I'm wondering if it would be more cost effective to have one of those tow services move it for you.

If you do go forward with it, please post the pics and results. I'd like to know how it handled.

Your sturdy F150 will do it, but I echo what rosko082391 said, get the integrated trailer brake controller, and have your computer re-flashed.

Your truck weighs 5800#, and a 10,000lb trailer will push you around

The other thing I would consider is the time. If you have never pulled anything even close to this size, you're in for a surprise. You will get used to it, but it will take a bit. Most likely you will average around 50-60 mph. Going over that is probably a bit dangerous and WILL effect your gas mileage. Plan on the trip taking you around 8 hours.

I can tell you when I pull my 5,000lb (25ft) TT I rarely get over 65. The MPG drops too much and it feels far less safe.

Where are you planning on pulling from and to? This will also determine how the trip will go.

get a trailer brake controller its a good thing to have anyways. I wouldn't go much farther than 10 miles with out it. I would also recommend torsion bars to keep the weight off your truck and spread out throughout the trailer but u could still do it without them.

BTW We have yet to ask what gearing you have? Unless you have 3.73 you will be over your tow rating.

Pecos to Euless - I'll have all day, so no hurry.

Tow company wanted $900 to take it out there.

I would be doing on or before this weekend. Not sure if that gives me enough time to do the trailer brake controller. Anyone have a part number for the 2012?

3.73

With due respect.

Too much trailer for someone with no real towing experience.
Too much trailer for your truck most likely... Based on the published ratings.

Find a friend with a bigger truck/lots of towing experience or hire someone.
