Default Powerboost/max tow

Im getting ready to trade in my 2017 ecoboost in on a new powerboost and im debating on whether its worth getting the max tow package? its my understanding that the only thing im really getting extra over the tow/haul package is the 3/4 floater rear end.
is it worth the $360 to get the floater rear end?
My current truck pulls my 7500 lb camper and my dump trailer just fine, but if the floater rear end is better I don't mind spending the extra $$$.

If I was pulling a 7500# trailer, I'd spend the $360 for maxtow.

If you care about payload, I would skip it. Raises your tow rating but even a standard PB tow rating exceeds 10K lbs.

Im planning on a truck cap and the decked system in this truck so I wont be able to haul heavy loads. I have smaller trailers for that..

a 7500lb trailer eats a lot of payload and is no picnic for most well equipped half ton trucks - that's mostly what I was referring to. But it's likely true that if you tow that trailer with a nearly empty cab and bed it will still have payload to spare.

If all you need is the 2KW system rather than the 7.xKW system, and payload is crucial to you, get an F250

Reading your posts. You dont plan to tow this heavy again? If so then just save the $360.

I seriously considered a Powerboost, here is why I determined the PB is not worthwhile - for towing. Or even for not towing.
1) The Cargo Carrying Capacity of the Powerboost F150 (XLT trim FX4) I was considering was 1533#, which will be less than your 2017 3.5L EB CCC.
The Ecoboost 3.5L F150 XLT FX4 I bought has a 1822# CCC. In other words, the PB Cargo Carrying Capacity is reduced by 289# due to the weight of the battery, electric motors etc. The CCC difference translates to about 2,064 pounds in greater trailer GVWR capability for the Ecoboost 3.5L truck.
2) complexity: some investigation, most Ford stores (as at 2022 and I would expect this to be not much different today - the techs I have spoken to say the pay (to be qualified to work on PB's) is insufficient and hence not worth the trouble to train on PB) had one ( 1 ) tech that is trained / authorized to service hybrids. Plus the electronic complexity of regular ICE vehicles today is astounding...add to that all the electronics necessary to operate the PB hybrid system = no thanks! Remember: when the PB hybrid system dies, the whole PB truck dies does too.
3) political: all EV and hybrid battery materials originate / process / managed at some point in the world supply chain through China / Chinese state controlled companies - including the Congo where child labour is employed / enslaved to extract rare minerals EV's require (lithium, cobalt, graphite, manganese, etc ). Does anyone want to be seen supporting such a regime that continues to violate human rights, reprograms citizens, promotes ethnic cleansing, stifles political dissent?
[And a note to the moderator: I know politics should be avoided on this blog - however the reality is what is stated, I chose carefully how I shop - we all should if we are to support freedom of choice.]
4) the Powerboost smaller fuel tank will seriously impede the truck's towing / driving range. Most ICE XLT's will have the larger 136 litre ( 34 U S gallon) tank. My EB F150 towing range (with larger tank) is 350km to 500km ( 1100km not towing, recently 9.7 L/100km = 24.25 US MPG), depending on winds traffic etc.(Head winds across the prairies is brutal to fuel economy).
5) the PB hybrid system is dead weight when towing (see #1), will not 'operate' nor 'boost' in tow mode nor in highway driving.
6) Goosedowner, for a GVWR 7500# trailer, enroute to the campground the tongue weight will be nearly 1050# ! For that trailer that is in F250 towing territory, so for a F150 Max Tow for certain. The type / distance your planned towing is important - to the near parks verses cross country, the PB hybrid does not adequately support either, especially the latter. And besides, why pay MORE for the PB and get LESS tow / carrying capability? And I have read that some PB owners are very disappointed in their PB fuel economy / range.
Just saying.

You guys are making me feel bad about towing my last camper with my 2017 3.5 ecoboost. That camper was over 9000lbs loaded and that was fine, you know, as long as it wasn't windy....lol
my current truck tows this camer like its not even there, even on windy days????
