Default Plowing with a 2016 F150 5.0 4x4

I purchased a nice, new 2016 5.0l 4x4 F150 for use as a tow vehicle. It happened to come with the Snow Plow Prep package. It has snowed a lot this year in New Hampshire, and my snow thrower is old and in need of repair.

My driveway is 220 feet long, at a 20 degree slope, with a 20x30 parking area at the top.

My options are...
  1. Repair snowthrower myself
  2. Pay someone to repair the snowthrower
  3. Pay someone to ploy my driveway
  4. Plow my own driveway

I've never operated a plow and I've heard the F150 is not really equipped and that plowing is not good for the truck. I would be interested in hearing from people with actual experience plowing a similar drive with a similar truck. I would also be interested in learning of inexpensive plows for my truck.

Thank you.

I've heard the F150 is not really equipped and that plowing is not good for the truck.

The F-150 with snowplow prep pkg is not really equipped to handle the big, heavy snowplows that the SuperDuty can handle. But if you follow Ford's rules you can plow your driveway with no problems. Plowing won't hurt the truck, provided you follow all the rules including weights, speeds and maintenance.

In your 2016 F-150 Owner's Guide there a section under "Driving Hints" on snowplow operation. The weight limits of the plow is your biggest obstacle. The Owner's Guide tells you to go to this link to determine the max weight of any snowplow you can use without voiding your factory warranty:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/truckbbas...wplow_v1-0.pdf

That says the permanent non-removable hardware cannot weigh more than 70 pounds, and the removeable snowplow cannot weigh more than 383 pounds on an F-150 SuperCrew with short bed. Even less if you have the 6.5' bed. Good luck in finding a useable snowplow that light.

What's wrong with the snow blower? If it's a 30 minute repair, that's a no-brainer to me... You also left out an option to buy a new, larger snow blower and sell the used one. That would still end up being about half the cost of a plow.

Fixing the snow blower is probably the best answer. I just want to know about the plow options.
