Please help me calculate towing capacity
Hello all,
After much searching, reading, and help from this forum, I may have found a truck that will tow what I need it to. I have done the math, the salesman has done the math, but please help me confirm it all.
2018 F-150 XLT Screw, 5.5’, 4 x 2
6750 GVWR
max tow package
3.5L EcoBoost engine
3.55 axle
18” wheels
Payload per door sticker 1850#
GCWR 17,900
Curb weight 4496
(Has 55,226 miles on it. One owner, personal use, regularly serviced per Carfax. Is $26,899 a good price?)
Thank you!!!
Karen

What are you planning to tow with it? As to the price that can vary by region. You'll get a better idea from a source like kelly blue book

Horse trailers can vary a bit more than the typical RV Trailer but as a wild guess I will say 750 lb tongue weight. Many horse trailers are not designed for a WDH so assuming no WDH that would leave you about 1100 of GVWR for driver, passengers, cargo in truck or accessories assuming you didn't exceed your RAWR (3850?). With the 750 lb you will add more to the rear tires than that because the front lift transfers weight to the rear axle as well. Of course that doesn't include any R. axle weight from pass or cargo.
But again that's just a swag.
17900/12700 for your combo appears to have a footnote (Requires 20" Wheels).
My memory is saying at intro they said 20" Wheels added 500 lb to the ratings. If that's correct your ratings would be 17400/12200.

The horse trailers I have experience with are certainly capable of accomodating a WDH. And you're going to need it.
Otherwise you'll be fine pulling a 7k horse trailer. Heck I'd pull that with my truck and not overthink it.

True. But you can't compromise the structural integrity of the trailer by installing one. Only install a WDH if the trailer manufacturer says it's safe to do so. Also as I said that's a SWAG. His tongue may be lighter.
