There's a graph (imaginary but true) that shows an exponential increase of retardism and lying from the salesman as he gets closer to closing the sale.....Please tell him that the educated people of your friendly, informative F150 forum said that. On a side note, proof of uneducated salesman speaking about towing and weight capabilities of trucks and trailers is all over truck and trailer forums....brand neutral.
Based on the salesman's own website, the truck is optioned (both in the options and features tab) that it is rated for 5,000lbs. There is no indication of a heavier duty tow package that would put it rate at 7,600lbs.
I'm also not seeing anything in their posting or the window sticker showing any indication of a 53A, 53B or 53C package that would indicate a higher tow rating beyond 5,000lbs
Here is the window sticker that speaks nothing of a tow package beyond a trailer hitch and flat 4 wiring. WINDOW STICKER
Have that salesman show you the different features of each package so that he finally understands how to sell something.
However, the 2018 F150 Brochure on page 30 states that the truck can tow up to 6,000 lbs with the Class IV Trailer Hitch***Restrictions May Apply

LMFAO for use of "exponential increase of retardism" Thank you for the quick reply. I passed this info along to my sales guy and they now concur with exactly what you posted. While 6,000# does meet my current needs, never know what new toys are 2-3 years away.
They have an identical model that is 3.5 with the max tow package. 3k more, but I am now leaning towards the upgrade.
Again, really appreciate your response.

There is nothing wrong with the 2.7l to tow a moderate sized trailer. Just look for one with the trailer tow package ($995 option price) and preferably the 2.7l payload package ($750 option price). If it has the payload package it will have the tow package.
The dealer should be able to do a search for one if they don't have one on the lot.

Speaking from experience, the 3.5 is a great motor but the payload will run out and limit what you can tow. Make sure whatever truck you get has a payload that is 1700+ pounds. This will allow you to tow quite a large trailer and still allow room for family and cargo in the truck.
