How do I check what my payload on the truck is I'm unsure on how to do that. And how do I check what the wheelbase is?

The payload figure is written on the sticker inside the drivers door. Is your truck a standard cab , supercab or supercrew ?

Best way to get the true payload is to take the trucks gvwr from the sticker and subtract the actual scale wt. Of the truck but the sticker will be close minus any add ons after the factory.

A super cab 6.5 or a crew 5.5 will be 145" wb. A crew 6.5 will be 157" wb. A supercab 8' will be 163" wb. There are some shorter but i cant recall the actual #s. I think a reg cab 8" is 133" or so and a reg cab short box is around 121". Hope this helps.

This is what the stickers look like on your door.
As already suggested, the best way is to load the truck with all the gear and people you plan to haul, fill the fuel tank, and go to the scales. Subtract the weight of the truck from the GVWR weight on the sticker to determine the payload remaining for trailer tongue weight.

If you can't get to the scale, take the number on the yellow tire sticker ("The combined weight of occupants and cargo should never exceed:"). Then subtract the weight of any accessories added after the truck left the factory.

You didn't say what year your truck is or which length cargo box it has. Super Cab comes with three different lengths of cargo box which results in three different wheelbase lengths. Here is a table of wheelbases through 2012, should be good through 2014.

regular cab 6'6" = 126"
regular cab 8' = 145"
super cab 5'6" (raptor) = 133"
super cab 6'6" = 145"
super cab 8' = 163"
super crew 5'6" = 145"
super crew 6'6" = 157

Also, what engine, gear ratio, trim level, and especially tow package you have will impact your towing and payload capacity.
