Default One time tractor tow ?

Wanting to tow a 4,800 lb tractor for 60 miles one time. My friend has an 18' utility trailer he'll let me borrow that weighs around 2,000 lbs. I understand my hitch weight will be more around 600 lbs, would I absolutely need a weight distribution hitch for this tow? I've towed for years but with 3/4 tons and campers or 1/2 tons with boats. Am I at risk of the F150 hitch itself getting damage if I load a little more than 500lbs on it without a weight distribution hitch or is this strictly for truck control while towing? No plans to drive over 60 mph by the way. Truck is a '19 crew cab short bed 5.0 10 speed. Really don't want to put a weight distribution hitch on his trailer for a short one way trip. Thanks for any advice!!

It's a truck, use it for what it was made for. That load is easily managed without a WDH, though I'd be more comfortable knowing the trailer had surge or electric brakes. You will be fine.

Yes, it does have electric brakes.

You will be fine. I'd double check my hitch, many ***** are only good for 5k, usually printed on it.

You'll be fine the only reason they say to use a WDH over 500 lbs tongue weight is to keep the front wheels down. With or without a WDH the frame still carries the tongue weight in my case up to 1320lbs.

My 1900 pound two axle(3500each) trailer is good for up to 7k gross, so with similar trailer you're ok. IMO where folks often fail to do right is to properly secure the tractor with correct chain/binders and or correctly rated nylon ratcheting straps.

Thank you for clarifying that!

Make sure you think about the load distribution of the tractor on the trailer, whether to back on or front on. And big point on chains/straps that can handle the load in an emergency.

Yea you need a WDH. Moving the tractor back will cut some tongue weight but at some point that will make the trailer throw the truck around.

Find a friend with a 250/2500+ to help you move it. Or rent something. Or just pay someone with the correct equipment to move it.
