Default New F 150 Owner-What towing upgrades??

Good evening,

Purchased a 16 xlt 4x4 with towing pkg and 3.5 eco. Towing a 5600 lb boat, besides an airlift system is there anything I should look at to make my towing life easier or more efficient?

Secondly, I read I'm not supposed to tow anything until I have 1k miles. What consequences are there from breaking this rule?

Thanks in advance for your replies

You definitely need a weight distribution hitch, more so than an airlift system.

No consequences at all I and several folks I know but a new truck hook up to a trailer and head out. My last truck I did this with an 8k lb trailer and pulled it with cruise on for several hundred miles. Both no nos but truck ran well and reliably its whole life. I did nothing extra to tow my boat. Again - never any issues

The consequences are that you are putting an extra strain on components before they are broken in. And if you "set the cruise" you aren't varying RPMs or using different gears, which is also recommended.

And yes, you likely need a wdh.

He is towing a boat, he will not need a WDH, the hitch weight of his trailer is way under 500 I would just about guarantee it.

Boat is 5,600 plus trailer, I would guess it may be close.

I would guess he is still under, if his boat weighs 5600(I bet that is combine with trailer though as that is how most guys weigh them as its hard to weigh just the boat) it's probably a large stern drive power pack or multiple outboards. Both of which are stern heavy and the fuel tanks are almost always located further aft as well. Boats are a strange beast for towing and are usually to tounge light.

I also just recently bought my new 150...it's a 2016 xlt with 3.5eco ,tow package. I have a 29' TT weighing 7,200lbs. I bought the e-quilizer WD hitch and it made a world of difference. Would definitely recommend it. Wouldn't tow without it

Agreed, and if he did he will have to get a tongue adapter for the WD, PITA
