Default Need new tires soon looking at options

As the title says, looking at new tires before winter for sure. I currently have the stock wrangler sr-a p 275/65/18s on the truck. They are 114 load index rating or 2601lbs at 44psi. I am looking at a couple options other than E load range. Towing the GN has not been a problem with these tires so no need to go up to LR E. I am looking at Hercules Cross Vs, they are p series too, but 116 load index rating for 2756lbs at 51psi or pretty close to the 2535 of LR C tires. I really don't want E LR tires because I put 30k a year or so on the truck (less than 18 months driving it and at 45 now), and lots of it with no trailer, so mpgs and comfort matter a lot.

I have also looked at Cooper and Mastercraft, all 3 of which are made by Cooper. I have had good luck with Cooper tires in the past. I think the XL 116 rating will give me a bit more stiffness when I load them up for towing but be a better ride than the 10 ply. The goodyears have been fine but they are a bit noisy and not real good in snow or wet conditions.

Any thoughts?

Try finding LR C in this size in a highway tire, not many out there. I wanted to go that route, but none available in a quiet highway style tire. That is why I looked at 116 load index instead of the standard 114 index, its pretty close to a LRC in rating(at 91% of 2756 its 2507 vs 2535 for LR C). I have been reading tire threads, but had not seen much mention of the 116 index p rated vs the 114 that come stock on the trucks.

Thanks for the help though, just wanted to pick some brains and see if anyone had tried them.

I have never tried the BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 but they are a very highly rated tire with a very high load index. These will probably be my next tire.

I have tried the Hercules stuff and I have to say that they were great in the dirt and I never cut a side wall but they are absolute s**t in the snow and rain. I personally believe that they copy their treads from the other manufactures and than sub in low quality rubber.

I have used the Firestone Destination A/T and they were a great all around tire but unfortunately they do not have the big load range that you are looking for.

I have used Cooper and I have had great luck with them in the past but lately I seem to be hearing of problems with bulging sidewalls and poor warranty coverage.

Honestly, stick to the big tire makers like Goodyear, BF Goodrich, Firestone, Michelin, etc. You will always get a well constructed tire with a good tread, good rubber and good warranty coverage.

Mine came with Michelin LTX A/S 114T. Excellent tire choice.

My local dealer was out of stock when I needed one in a hurry, so he sold me a Bridgestone Dueler H/T Alenza. Also an excellent choice that can handle rain and light snow/ice, but most of my miles are dry pavement and towing my 5,000-pound TT.

Guess I never realized that not a lot of tires are available in LR-C. Checked a few highway all seasons and it was either P-rated or LR-E. AT's were a little different and there are a few more options but as you said you drive a lot, heavier, more aggressive tires are going to hit your mpg at least a little. I imagine E's are heavier than C's too.

I am looking hard at the Hercules Cross V, I have had great luck with their tires on my trailer different tread pattern but higher load range, but very smooth and tough tires. I also like the General HTS 60. It also like the Hercules comes in 116 load index which puts it on pat with the LRC tires when run at 91% of listed max. The 114 load index is working out fine with the trailer, but dont like the noise of the goodyear wrangler SR-a. Anybody have experience with the General HTS 60, it seems to get good reviews on line?

Yes, all the LT-C tires in that size seem to be off-road or all-terrain.

In P-116T all-seasons in that size, what I see on Tire Rack is:

Continental CrossContact LX20
Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude HT
General Grabber HTS60

Dunno anything about them, but the Continentals seem to have pretty good reviews. Don't see the Hercules, sorry.

Take a look at the Hankook Dynapro ATM XL (extra load). I put them on my truck last year and have been very pleased. Can be aired up to 50 psi. Good choice when you need a bit more capacity without going to an LT tire.
