Max Tow Package
I'm looking at the 2013 FX4 Ecoboost 145" Supercrew 4WD F150. I plan on towing a 9,900 lb max enclosed trailer so want to get the highest towing capacity available in the Eco platform. Through reading on this forum I have learned about the max tow package but its difficult to find in a 2013 model. Furthermore, a lot of posts I've read are confusing and not specific to a 2013.
So my question is what are you getting with this package and what is the difference in tow capacity of the 3.73 rear end with max tow vs without max tow?
Thanks

The details of what the differences are in here:

Which looks like basically an oil cooler and trailer brake controller get you nearly a ton of capacity.

Looks like to me the only difference is the hitch as I have the brake controller as an option. I believe I also have the auxiliary transmission cooler. I do not have telescoping mirrors.
Does anyone have pics of what the upgrading hitch looks like? I have a hard time believing there is a 1600 difference between the two.

The highest tow capacity will be determined more by your truck's payload and hitch rating. A 10K pound enclosed trailer should have 12% on the hitch, say 1200#. That's too much for many F150's payload when people and gear in the truck is added in. If you need more payload you will have to add the HD Payload option, which is usually a special order and not avail for the FX, but gives you a stiffer suspension, LT tires, heavier rear axle.
And the MaxTow hitch is only rated to 1150# tongue weight when Weight Distributing. Not sure if the reg tow hitch is much less.

As above, plan on the heavy duty payload package. Cargo capacity is what you are going to be short on.
And yes, you will have to special order it that way. You won't find one in the lot. Hard enough just to find a max tow on the lot.

I got the same thing the OP is looking at. I have an FX4 with max tow.
When I bought mine, I went to the dealer's web site, checked inventory for XLT Screws with Max Tow, found two, went to the dealer where the sales guy said he was sure he didn't have any and, having checked the colors online, was able to take him right to the two trucks that had what I wanted. I also had printouts of offers from New England dealers I had received through the USAA Auto buying program and asked that they match the offers.
