Default Manaul Fan Switch

I gave a 2014 3.5 Ecoboost that is getting hot when towing a long grade. I just did a 170 thermostat but want the option to manually turn the radiator fans on high. Anyone done this yet? Looking for the instruction.

Measure the inlet and outlet of the radiator when the truck is hot.
If there isnt a 50F or so drop from inlet to outlet the radiator is shot.

Measure with an IR thermometer.

That will prevent the engine from operating correctly, waste fuel, increase emissions, increase engine wear, and have NO effect on peak engine temperature. Leave the engineering to Ford - maintain & repair the truck properly.

If the fan is already running when the engine gets hot, adding a manual switch will only prevent it from working right. Leave it alone.

The manual switch would be for the annual camping trip where I tow my 7000 pound trailer over Wolf Creek pass. Its 10 miles of over 7% grade. Not running all the time but just for the pass.

My Powerstroke had wiring under the dash made for adding a fan switch to keep the fan on for extreme situations. I was hoping the F150 had something similar.

The ecm knows when it is running hot and will turn it on regardless. Do you have reason to believe it is not?

Not from the factory. In extreme situations, the PCM turns the fan on as needed - just like in normal situations.

Do what others said. Measure the radiator inlet/outlet temps. Run premium fuel. Lock out top gears.
Weight isn't the only thing you're fighting with a TT but aerodynamics as well.

When it's hot, the fan is on high already. You're not thinking of something Ford hasn't already programmed into the cooling system controls.

Better intercooler as well as making sure the intercooler isn't blocked by a bull bar or aftermarket bumper or something will help tremendously.

If your PCM hasn't gone to limp mode due to over temp, then your truck is working fine and you should do nothing to it......IMO.

But some folks like to tinker and fix non existent problems.
