Looking into getting a hitch receiver.
edit: it’s. 2019 xlt super crew 5.0 4x4 3.31 gear
My truck was a rental in its past life before it came to me.
I don’t tow at all, my truck is more for hauling and hunting. I want to get a receiver just for the off chance that I need to tow something and also maybe for things like a bed extender, bike rack etc.
There is no brake controller, just the coin slot thing where it would be. Was thinking about opening that to see if there is wiring there. I do have the 4 pin connection in the back.
The Chrysler dealer I got it from didn’t have the original window sticker so I don’t know what my truck is capable of really, I guess I should check the door jam sticker for that.
With my needs it’s probably a moot point to add a brake controller, and I guess if my truck doesn’t have a tow package it wouldn’t have the trans cooler so I’m limited in towing capability anyway.
So this all being the case I should probably just get a receiver and bolt it on, a class III would probably fit my needs.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

You should be able to set up an account here and send them the VIN to get the window sticker.

It would help with more info about the truck. I get that you don't know everything yet but starting out with year and trim level and what you know might help.

To make a signature if you look toward the upper left part of your screen in the blue bar you will see "User CP' Click that and there is an option for signature on the left side of the screen.
edit: I’m probably blind but couldn’t find it on mobil. Found it on my pc.

Interesting. That’s good to know. So then maybe I should just future proof my towing needs and get whatever I need to make it happen. What do I need to do?

If you are just doing basic towing and looking at a Class III hitch, there isn't much need for a brake controller. Of our three trailers only the camper needs it. Some vehicles are prepped for a controller and have the 7 pin at the back of the truck. You indicated you just have the 4 pin so it might be more work to add trailer brakes. In trucks that don't have a controller but have 7 pin then it is normally a case of picking up a controller and a short harness that plugs right into the existing wiring. I am kind of shocked it doesn't have that.
Even if you had to tow a larger trailer. A lot of times the trailer rental places use surge brakes because it offers more compatibility for those out there that have a truck like yours without a brake controller. I don't know that I would add one just to have one unless there was a need.
As for the receiver, don't forget there are aftermarket options out there as well as bolting up an OEM. I would probably go with whatever the cheaper option was. Like you said you are not pulling anything big.
It is true about all 10 speeds having a cooler so you are good there. The trucks with the big towing packages do have a bigger radiator though. I don't think you would really need that though towing small loads.
