Default Installed OEM brake controller (not flashed yet)

I just installed the OEM brake controller (from Fairway Ford) in a 2013 F150 (with trailer tow package). Nothing has appeared in the display, (with a trailer hooked up). I understand that I have to go to Ford and have them flash the ECU so the system will recognize the controller. Makes sense it can't show anything (or correct info) on the display (before flash).

My question is: Will the controller "work" before flashing the ECU? Can I tow something TODAY, and have the brakes work?

No. I installed one in my '11 Lariat. It was just as dead plugged in and mounted as it was in the box when I bought it. You have to have it activated. I attempted to pull a trailer empty and tested it before activation. It didn't work in any form.

OK thx. One dealer said $65, other dealers said one hour ($115 and $148) for the flash.

Quick question. I just put mine in as well. Based on the instructions I was expecting to see "TBC Fault" displayed until it was programed. Did you get that or was there absolutely no indication it was added until it was programed? I was hoping for some indication that the TBC was alive and talking just not configured.

I saw no indication whatsoever (that the system knew a controller was plugged in) I was even a little concerned that maybe I did't actually plug it in all the way. I expected some indication. I've been to the dealer though, its flashed, and the controller works perfect now.
