I Need Help With Towing Info
#21
We tow a trailer that was 6,000# dry and is now approx. 7200-7300#.
So we are slightly heavier than you are/will be.
I have an Ecoboost with 3.31 rear end.
My truck tows this like a champ.
WD set up is spot on and no problems.
The 3.31's will not hinder your towing experience.
If you have the bad 5.0l that everyone is talking about, that might be a problem.
But the gears will not be a problem.

On the underside of hitch it says "11,000 & 1,110" for Weight Distribution.
So looks like I am fine. Just a question about the 5.0 V8 motor possibly. We pick up the camper a week from Saturday. So I guess we will find out then. I am having a Husky WD/Sway hitch installed. Hopefully all goes well.

Depends on which Husky WD hitch. Husky makes cheap WD hitches as well as the Centerline. You want a Centerline. Yeah, the Centerline costs more than the cheap hitches, but they do a much better job of sway control under extreme conditions. Trailer sway is a killer, so you want the best sway control you can afford.

I've towed 6,000+ with my truck (5.0 w/3.31s) with no issues.
Take these forums with a grain of salt. There are thousands of people out there with a 5.0 and 3.31s who tow and have no problem. The ones that do have a problem come on the forum.

I tow a 7500 lb Travel Trailer (Loaded weight) with my 16 - 3.5 Ecoboost with 3.31 gearing. I too settled for the that rear because it was the only truck in my area as well. While it's not the ideal ratio, it does not stop my truck from towing OK. Be prepared to re-adjust the weight distribution hitch once you load up. We did our first trip with the Equalizer WD hitch setup by the dealer and it was a terrible towing experience. I thought it was my truck that was under performing but after making some adjustments all was well.

there's nothing unsafe or illegal about towing with a 5.0L and 3.31. So long as you don't exceed any vehicle ratings.
