I have a 2019 super crew with 3.5 max tow 20 inch wheels. I am pulling a 33 1/2 foot Sporttrek touring with a GVWR of 8800 pounds. No problems. I also have a blue ox sway and weight distribution system

My opinion. Over 6000 and you need to choose carefully. Once you get to 8000 lbs it is time to consider a 3/4 ton truck. The closer you are to 10,000 the harder you should be looking at 3/4 tons. At, or over 10,000 lbs, get a 3/4 ton regardless of what the charts say.

With an 8900 lb trailer I'd feel better with a 3/4 ton than a 1/2 ton. And it is a lot easier, and usually cheaper, to buy a 3/4 ton than find a 1/2 ton rated to handle that much weight.

all good info and picked up some knowledge from the ones in the know. Think I'll take the advice and try and find one under 8000. Limits the options when looking for a bunkhouse with a slide in the bunk. Thanks all

Those who claim no problem with a heavy trailer, post the scale tickets and your payloads. I'm pretty sure my Platinum will be No Problem towing a 9K trailer, but it will be grossly over weight.

Most of the posts here are good general advice.
But they are just that general advice.

That 9,000 lb trailer might weigh 10,000 or 11,800 lb loaded.

Tongue Weight might be 1150 or 2000 lb.

The devil is in the details.

My travel trailer ends up at 90% of GVWR and almost 15% tongue.

In the end you need to weigh things. Unless you have a lot of excess capacity to spare never just assume.

What exactly are you looking for in a trailer? I have been looking at so many trailers the past couple weeks to replace my just sold Bunkhouse that I might know a couple that fits your needs and be in the right weight rating for your truck.
