Is the 5.4 three valve engine good for towing?

Mine towed great. No issues whatsoever. It had come with the HD tow package. Towed everything from 1400 sq.ft. of bamboo flooring to a couple thousand sq.ft. of sod for the kids when they were putting a lawn in.

I tow up at the max or slightly above. The engine is adequate for the job. I have no complaints for what it is. Would I like more power? Who wouldn't

Keep in mind that this truck has a good 100 hp and tq more then a typical truck from only 20 years ago. Engine performance is really not the issue anymore

We have a 2008 Expedition that I've towed a 7,500 lbs camper before and it tows fine but is a dog compared to my 3.5 economy f150.

Here's the towing guide. Like most others, you will likely be limited by payload instead of engine.

I put a blower on my 5.4 and tow heavy things with it when I do. It's a beast pulling trailers and anything else heavy. The motor works and it just goes....

Yes it's good. The 5.4 is just as good as the current 5.0 in towing (some even say better at low rpm) in the first 1/3 to half of rpm range since 5.4 has good low end torque for a 2004 engine. I towed with one and it did well.

Just finished towing a 23 foot 5400 lb trailer from NC to Niagra Falls and back. Mountains worked the truck pretty good. But I'm not one to put my foot into something to make it go. I was okay with the speed. Kept the overdrive disengaged mist of the time. Makes a huge difference on the "nuisance" hills.

But I must admit, that from what I've read about the 3.5 TT, there were times I would like to have had it. Just makes things go easier.

But my 5.4 came through and I'm not ready to give it up just yet.
