No problem. The max tongue weight rating is just that - a maximum rating. You can have almost any tongue weight less than the max rating as long as you adjust the tension on the spring bars to match the actual tongue weight.

For example, here are the specs for the Reese Strait-Line WD hitch rated for a max of 1,200 pounds tongue weight:
Product Specs:
Weight Distribution
WD With Sway Control
Prevents Sway
700 lbs minimum tongue weight
800 lbs
900 lbs
1000 lbs
1100 lbs
1,200 pounds maximum tongue weight

However, the Equal-I-Zer website suggests that you buy the correct weight rating within a couple hundred pounds of your actual maximum tongue weight. So in your case, the 1,200 would be the correct Equal-I-Zer hitch.

My ProPride hitch is rated for a max tongue weight of 1,400 pounds, but the max tongue weight of my TT is around 650 pounds. So I tighten the spring bars only to the tension needed to handle the actual tongue weight. That works good because of the design of the ProPride hitch. On my ProPride hitch, you adjust the tension on the spring bars by screwing the screw jacks that adjust the spring bars. So I can fine-tune the tension very exact.

On my Reese Straight-Line hitch, you adjust the tension on the spring bars by choosing the correct chain length you connect up with.

I haven't used an Equal-I-Zer hitch, but apparently you adjust the tension on the spring bars by moving the bracket on the tongue up or down.

That's the upgraded MaxTow hitch receiver that handles up to 1150# with a WDH.

I've yet to find an upgrade or replacement for it.

Torklift makes an expensive add-on, giving you two, 2" receivers, with theirs rated at 1500# with WDH. But it does *not* work with the 1150# MaxTow receiver, just the 1050# RegTow receiver. They've told me though that if anybody can leave their truck with the 1150# receiver with them, they might be able to come up with something.

You can also probably find someone more local who would know how to upgrade the hitch receiver. Around here we have Can-Am RV who do all sorts of nonsense mods (a mini towing an Airstream), but apparently know how to strengthen a hitch receiver.

Just thought I would post an update. I ordered the 12k Equalizer hitch on Amazon and received it this week. It was missing one of the outer link plates. I called Equalizer and they are sending me a new one, no questions asked. Excellent customer service!

Now, if it ever thaws out up here in the great white north I will pull my TT out to level ground and install it. I appreciate all the help with making the decision on what hitch to buy.

Congrats.

I've just installed my 14K Equal-I-Zer.

Was pretty straight-forward. But am still tweaking the weight distribution settings. Went to a CAT scale and discovered that my TW has increased to 1220#. So am up to a 6 washer head tilt. Still haven't figured out how that 1220# happened.

Got a 15/16" socket for loosening and tightening the anti-sway bolts in the head. Found it was pretty hard to move the arms in place without loosening those bolts each time, then re-tightening them before taking off. But I do like all that anti-sway friction/goodness.

P.S. All this is happening in Florida.
