You don't want to use a WDH on a boat anyway. Imagine the offloading of weight of the rear axle when backing down the ramp... Boats are an odd exception to normal towing circumstances due to most of the weight being behind the trailer axles and a WDH giving an undesirable reduction of weight over the rear truck axle.

1st pic is the hitch sticker. The 2nd pic is the sticker with the GVWR & axle weight ratings. It also has a 2086# cargo capacity. My truck is a 2014 w/ HDPP.

This is my 2018 Platinum, with a topper, me and a full tank of gas. GVWR 6750. I can go the full 1320 pounds and have payload leftover. The HDPP above may have more payload, but, as I pointed out, can't tow as much without going over some GWR. In the above example, the limit is 1150 pounds on the receiver.

So, If anyone says an HDPP can tow more than a Max Tow, call BS, because it cannot. I just proved it!

Of course, as you've pointed out before on many other threads, it does sort of require a pair of unicorn trailers as well as vehicle cargo conditions for it to be true in a real world application.

Tow rating may not increase, but the fact that you can put more tongue weight on an HDPP means that when running trailers where weight cannot be distributed (like TT's), heavier trailers can be towed.

HDPP increasing tow capacity is false on paper, true in reality.

Except you EXCEED the receivers rating. You cannot put more weight on the RX on an HDPP regardless of how much payload it has, than a non HDPP MT with available payload. With just me in the cab, I can easily put 1320 pounds on the receiver on my truck, and have some payload left.

You just proved his point about towing reality vs on paper. Many people, including myself, put multiple humans, firewood, generator and pedal bikes in the truck when towing a travel trailer. I could pull my trailer with an empty truck by myself but that doesn't sound like much fun.

You mean the “Magical Unicorn” isn’t so magical after all? What about it’s special physics defying powers? Everyone on the Internet knows that all you need to tow heavy is a high payload right?

I bet my 3.5 Platinum can tow more than a 5.0 HDPP. Safe bet because I know it can't!
