Help - A Ford Sales rep told me this 2018 F150 could tow my trailer!

No, my argument is that the power output (in particular) of all current-generation F-150 engines is not the greatest limiting factor for towing, if considered in light of what was considered "enough" power for larger trailers twenty years ago.

Yeah can report that the 2018 F150 V6 3.3L 4x4 loses about half of its MPG when towing a 4,000 lb trailer. On average with no trailer seems to get around 24 MPG... trailer shaves that to about 12-13 MPG. Still, the fuel tank is big enough where I can tow the trailer for a good 4 to 5 hours from F to E before having to fill up if needed.
Also just gotta say love that Magnetic gray color. The gettup on this truck is fantastic, and it's a very smooth ride. Can drive all day and feel comfortable. Only thing I'm not crazy about is the suspension... when you hit bumps in the truck you feel it.

Ford's tow weight recommendations are just a starting point. Altitude, travel speed, grades expected, all play in to what's "possible". You can't just take a number off of a chart and use it without considering other things. Even after considerations the driver still has to be sensible. Getting up to speed is one thing, slowing it all down is another.
Just had to add that.

Considering a 67 1 ton Chevy had a 292 straight 6 in it with a three speed, why wouldn't a modern V6 with a 6 speed not be able to do hard work? Granted the 292 is about a 4.7 liter engine, but in a 1 ton truck would be equivalent to the 3.3 in a half ton truck.

Well as a newb my opinion only matters so much but can say the 2018 F150 V6 3.3L is pretty damn beastly for being the "base" engine. Throws my head back when I gun it and sounds like a demon roaring down the highway. Always hear people talk about how much better the V8 sounds but this V6 sounds great to me and it has a lot of power. Might be partly because it's still fresh too.. only 20,000 miles.

LOL, so true, but I can say first hand, the brakes on my F150 are whole lot better than those manual drum at all four wheel brakes on that 67 C30 I had! Man that truck was a beast, took a lot to muscle it in city traffic. Between that heavy clutch, manual brakes and manual steering, I got one heck of a work out, but loved that truck.

We really are spoiled these days with the 6 and 10 speed automatics and power steering. My truck is a beast but I can turn it with two fingers with very little effort. Thanks, science
