Default Grease ball threads?

Pulling my 2nd camper next week. Can I put a little grease on my new 2” ball threads to help keep the rust away or bad idea?

Thank you,
Jas

If you want to protect threads, don't use grease, use anti-seize.

Some will add anti-seize after install to the exposed threads only. If you apply it to the threads before installing the nut, reduce the torque by 25%, and, if possible, swap out the split lock washer for a tooth lock washer.

no. for one that is messy. and 2 grease will absorb moisture and water, and in a big glob.
anti seize would work, also letting the ball soak in PB blaster or WD-40 will protect it too. spray it frequently

If you just want it to look sexy, torque it to spec, clean it up, and paint it. No rust and paint flaking would be a visual indicator that attention is needed.

Cold galvanize spray. We use at work a good bit.

Mine came with instructions to torque the 1.25 in shank to 450ft lbs. If oiled, then torque to at least 30% less according to sources, to have same clamping force.

I used 1/2 air wrench at full pressure, which, gets it to about 450.

No grease; no oil; the best thing to use is blue threadlocker (which is also an anti-seize agent). Apply before installing the nut, and torque to spec.
