I have a Champion 3200 and it will run it just fine with the refer and WH on electric. It does pound hard during start up but eases off and runs well after that.

Is that the one of the Champion invertor generators with the direct RV plug built in or the standard generator? I have been considering the 3400 model 100233 to replace an old heavy and loud Powermate

Yes it is. Its pretty quiet for the output too. It weighs 86 pounds, has the 30 amp RV outlet, and con be converted easily to run off a marine fuel tank for extended runs.

Has anyone tried a propane generator? I've got a hookup at the back of my RV for a grill, I wonder if I could throw a hose on there and run it to a generator?

You can if it is duel fuel or propane.

However you will lose power and thus capability. Most generators that are duel fuel have a rating for gas and another for propane, which is less capacity for generation.

Remember that it's much easier to run down to the corner store (or the campground store) and haul back 5 gallons of gasoline than it is to run down there and haul back 5 gallons of propane. Gasoline is much, much more convenient to refill the tanks, or to get a few gallons for the generator, than propane.
