Yes, we have chatted before on FRF. my post said the SCREW cab with Max Tow package. 1828lbs of payload capacity and towing a 26ft TT with a loaded weight around 6500lbs.
To be honest, i would never tow a trailer that length with a 1/2 ton, even if it had the HDPP.
IMHO, that trailer is 3/4 or 1 ton tow vehicle.

Question is what should I be looking for in terms of trims and options that are going to get on or over the 1800 payload mark?
Payload is not your biggest problem.

For that much trailer, you also need longer wheelbase in the tow vehicle. That's why many are suggesting any F-150 will be too light to tow that much trailer.

Not possible on a SuperCrew equipped to tow that much trailer. There are three different wheelbases on an F-150 = 5.5', 6.5', and 8'. The "short bed" on a SuperCrew is 5.5', but you must have HDPP, and HDPP is not available with a 5.5' bed.

But assuming you are willing to put up with the tail wagging he dog, even with the 6.5' bed, here's the answer:

Don't even think about an F-150 that doesn't have the heavy duty payload package (HDPP).

For 2018-up, HDPP was not available on any trim better than XLT Mid (301A). And any used F-150 with HTPP is as rare as hen's teeth. So count on ordering a new 2021 F-150 XLT with HDPP. (2021 Order guide is not released yet, so you must use the 2020 order guide to get close to your order. Then have the dealer place the order the first day the 2021 order guide is available). Max tow is required with HDPP, so all you must remember to add as an option is the trailer tow mirrors.. Don't expect the new 2021 to be delivered before about Thanksgiving.

When you arrive at the dealership, do not talk to anyone except the fleet manager.

Here is a link to the 2020 with the options you must have:
https://shop.ford.com/build/f150/?in...3C.627.SS6.%5D]
If the2021 order guide changes, then get with your fleet manager to update the specs for your 2021 before he processes the order.

You can add other options, but every option you add, be certain that HDPP was not deleted.

- Can't seem to find anything used with the HDPayload package maybe that's because I'm looking at crew cab and smaller bed?
No, it's because dealers don't stock the HDPP so you have to order and wait for it to be delivered.

- Am I looking for a needle in a hay stack in a 1/2 ton truck that will suit my needs?
Probably, unless you are willing to settle for an F-150 XLT 301A with HDPP, then wait for Ford to build it and deliver it to your dealer. That requires planning ahead - and patience.

Don't want to make a big mistake here and if anyone has any recommendations on what features or models I should be looking for when shopping online it would be much appreciated..
Some will claim that even with the F-150 HDPP spec above, you'll probably not be a happy camper on long trips - because of the tail wagging the dog. But that rig has plenty of power to drag that much trailer over the Rockies - it's just to lightweight to handle that much trailer comfortably for most folks.

And BTW, don't even think of trying to tow that trailer on long trips with an F-150 HDPP without the best WD hitch on the market - the Hensley ProPride. www.propridehitch.com.
Yes. it costs 4 times as much as a good hitch such as the Equal-I-Zer, but it will overcome the tail wagging the dog better than a cheaper hitch.

And if all that sounds like too much trouble, then settle for an F-250. You can get exactly what you want without ordering and tow it with an Equal-I-Zer hitch.
