If it's just the 10k GVWR rating that keeps the payload down, then isn't it physically capable of having a higher payload?

That is basically what you get with a 350. You do get stiffer springs and upgraded axles, both of which are options on the 250, but the 10k GVWR is always the limiting factor. With a gas V8 instead of the diesel, the payload is mid to high 3k pounds as the diesel adds so much weight.

I loved my F350 Dually, but it became a maintenance *****, and when I needed to replace my destroyed 14 I considered another Superduty and test drove a 17 F350 XLT. That 6.7 is an awesome motor, I spun the tires on that truck pulling off a side road. I also test drove a 2015 Lariat, but didn't like the shorter cab interior with the storage tray underneath, and it rode rough and felt loose, but those were my only choices and I was in a crunch to get a replacement truck.

I would have considered the 17, but when I added up the increased cost of diesel and oil changes, I sadly had to forget it as it was over my budget. You will love how that truck tows, the mass of that diesel will make that trailer feel like a toy back there.

But that's water over the dam now, so enjoy the new tow vehicle.
I have an F150 with Max Tow Package,LT tires and 3.5 EcoBoost with a 1801 lb payload. I tow a 26.5" 5200lbs unloaded travel trailer and use a Reese WDH. I have found that if I don't want to feel like I'm in a boat in 3 foot waves while towing I have to set the hitch up so the front of the truck is the same height or slightly lower (1/4") loaded and hitched as the unloaded and unhitched height. I still get blown around in the wind though even with the hitch set up this way.
The OP wont have any towing problems now with the F250 Diesel. I should know my previous truck was a 3/4 ton Duramax/Allison.

Post up your real world MPGs. There will probably be a 250 diesel in my distant future as my family grows and my toy hauler grows!

According the the truck, high 17s, low 18s but I've only filled it up once and the first tank was from the dealer so I am just now starting really. Even so, the 150 was the same or slightly worse driving the same route. I have a relatively hilly 40 mile commute to work but with little traffic. I also tend to use my Adaptive Cruise quite a bit which does not help fuel economy. As mentioned in my first post, the truck will hold 6th gear going up many of these hills when the 150 would usually shift to 4th.

Honestly, parking has been the only thing I dislike about the truck. It is significantly longer and trying to pull into a space straight is a magic trick I have yet to master.

LOL try it with an extra pair of wheels in the back! OTOH having those extra wheels was fun when you have buttheads who like to take up two spaces, just park with the wheels even with their drivers door. They can't get in or out, but you can!

Nice truck, would have loved a SD if I didn't have to use it as the DD. I'd be changing the oil on the 6.7 way to much.

On a side note, how did those clip on mirrors on the f150 work out for you? I had tow mirrors on my 2.7, but I recently traded it in for a 5.0 with standard mirrors. Since the 5.0 is a lariat the tow mirrors are stupid expensive. So think I might just buy some clip ons as I only tow on the weekends.

very nice truck. i like to do the dream and build on the ford website. i think the biggest difference you will notice is the weight if the f250 makes the trailer more tame.

edit. i always back in to parking spots. way easier then pulling in. and makes leaving easier.

Nice truck!
You'll never look back on your F150 the first time you pull out to pass a slower vehicle going uphill and into the wind with your trailer! The PSD just never runs out of steam. I still miss my 2013 F250 PSD.
