Few have both HD Payload and Max Tow-why?
Few have both HD Payload and Max Tow-why is that? Having the combo seems to be the solution to many of the over payload limit/ excessive pin weight/excessive tongue weight issues. Everyone I've talked to who has both have yellow sticker payload number of around 2300lbs. That covers every weight "problem" I've read about here. Or am I mistaken?

Keepin' the lights on!
Your right, not many have it. No dealers I visited or looked at online when I bought mine even had one in stock. Special order only I guess. In fact it took me a while to find one with the max tow pkg. I would've got the max payload pkg too but I wanted the offroad pkg with the electric locking diff. Now that I think about it, I don't think I've even seen one with the HD payload pkg. The extra payload would be nice though.

Max Tow adds the integrated trailer brake controller, heavier hitch receiver. One reason you don't see them combined is you can only get the HD package with the 6.5' bed which I chose not to get because it wouldn't fit in my garage and is harder to park. Plus it is almost always a special order.

I have both.
When I ordered mine, max tow and HD payload were only available with the EB engine, the 5.0 could be had with either one only.
Yes, special order only. I doubt you'll find HD & max tow on a truck at a dealers lot. I needed HD payload, and really wanted the tow mirrors and heavier hitch plus brake controller, so both I have. They were the most important options when I ordered my truck.

Once you have HD payload, max tow won't add any extra payload. So the trucks you are talking about would have 2,300 lbs of payload without max tow also, probably slightly more even, as max tow adds a little bit of weight (hitch, mirrirs & brake controller).

Up here (Canada) the Dumbo mirrors were an extra option in 2011, so you would have to order them separately anyway. Dunno about 2012-13.
Not sure about the hitch. My MaxTow hitch placard says:
Weight Distribution: Tow: 11500# Tongue: 1150#
Weight Carrying: Tow: 5000# Tongue: 500#
The Weight Carrying rating is lower than most after-markets (6000/600) and probably the same as Ford's regular Tow? Can't imagine it being lower.
The Weight Distribution rating is also lower than most after-markets (12,000/1200), but maybe Ford's regular Tow package hitch is even lower?
All the brochures talk about is a reinforced Bumper. They don't mention the hitch specifically AFAIK.

Probably because about 99.9% of truck buyers do not tow anything.
Of the 0.1% of the rest of us, most can tow without either.
I have a '12 FX2 EB with neither and have the ability to tow a 7200# TT easily.
I can't put 4-5 passengers in the truck nor can I load up the bed when pulling this trailer. But I rarely need to do either.
So, of 1,000 Ford Truck buyers, maybe 1 or 2 actually have a need for either or both. Therefore, the mass production is geard toward the 99.99% rather than the .01%.
