Fault in Trailer Wiring
Anyone get this message? Fault in Trailer Wiring. Shows up every time I start the truck. No trailer is attached. Any ideas?

Beer, Boats, and Trucks.
Do you have a tailgate light bar or hitch cap plugged in? Did you splice any of the wires at all?

I did have a 5th wheel wiring setup installed about a year ago so that I could plug the pigtail right into a receptacle in the bed. Do you suppose there is an issue in the splice?

there's a good chance that could be the case. I can't think of any other good reason, I would let the shop that set that up for you know and see if they can take a look at it. Usually they have some kind of workmanship warranty

I would suspect this too. The pigtail to 7-pin connector on the back side of the bumper is not a very good design. It causes me false disconnects with a trailer attached if I don't keep it clean and periodically reseat it.

thanks. I also posted this on an RV site. I'm told that this is a common problem on F150. most advice is like yours. clean it. dry it. seal it.
the shop that did my pigtail connection is very reputable; so I'll try this first. Not that mistakes can't be made.
thanks again.

"Trailer Wiring Fault" indicates a short to ground in the brake feed circuit.
