Default factory brake controller ?

HI I need to install a controller in my 2013 and I usually go with Tekonsha but I noticed on a ford web site somewhere you can buy the factory unit.
I do have the factory receiver hitch and 4/7 pin so might this be a near plug-n-play option ?

thanks

Yes, posted often. Just be activated by dealer or with FORScan.

Yes, plug-n-play, but it won't work until after a dealer flashes the computer in the truck to tell it that you now have the integrated trailer brake controller (ITBC). Or some say you can DIY using Forescan software … http://forscan.org/home.html

You can buy the ITBC from any Ford dealer, but if you want to save a buck then try this discount Ford parts dealer:
https://parts.autonationfordwhitebea...0wbC12OC1mbGV4

The description says "Vehicles W/ Tow/Max". That means it's for all F-150s that have either the regular tow pkg or the max tow pkg.

You need a 7mm socket, remove the cover that holds in your plastic bezel for gauge cluster. The right side vent then should pop off with some light prying. Behind that area should be the harness. Remove your coin tray that resides in that spot and the BC should fit in.

Just off the phone after a 12 minute conversation the Ford dealer quoted me $626 Canadian just for the part. That's around $420 USD

I have a 2017 but I found a controller for mine for $85 US on e-bay. It is OEM, latest catalog number verified, and the seller is a Ford dealer. The local dealer wanted $133. You might want to try e-bay or other on-line places.
I also ordered an OBD adapter to work with Forscan so I can enable the controller myself. That was only $29.99 for a USB version. Dealer wanted 1 hour labor to install the controller and 1 hour labor to update software. Total $225 labor.

I liked the Tekonsha p2 I used in my last truck (Toyota Tundra) But this factory IBC worked flawlessly in my first tow about 20 miles to get the yearly inspection. Maybe someone near you (another member) can activate it for you!

Good Luck

I was going to install the Prodigy 3 but decided at the last minute to add the Ford ITBC at the dealer... they charged me $330 (USD) for parts & labor. I like to do my own work and this was a bit pricey for me but I didn't trust myself to not break the plastic bezel.

Good luck with your install!
