F150-7 wire RV plug question
I have a 2012 f150 with an aftermarket hitch and a 4 pin wiring connection. My question, is the wiring for a 7 pin RV connection already run or will I have to run additional wiring before I install the brake control and wire the 7 pin connector in place for my camper? I've been told that some XLTs will have an additional wire taped to the harness with a blue cap for just that purpose along with a harness behind the dash for the brake control. I haven't crawled under the truck yet to look for the extra wire. Thanks for the help.
the truck's towing capacity will be severely limited.
Okay, well I was hoping my truck was a little better equipped. Here is what I'm trying to pull and what my truck has now. Travel trailer: 2012 Keystone Passport Ultra Lite 2510RB which is 25' and dry weight 4940 pounds. Truck: 2012 F-150 crew cab, 5.0 V8, Automatic trans, Axle code:19, 4 wheel drive. When I bought the truck, it had no receiver and only a 4 wire flat trailer wiring harness. I have added a Curt brand class 4 chassis hitch and a 7 / 4 pin wiring receptacle. My question is: if I add a trans. cooler, add wiring to handle the electric brakes (7 pin), and install an OEM brake control in the dash, then go to the dealership to have them"turn on" the brake control, should I then be able to reasonably handle a 5000 pound travel trailer? I very seldom will ever go into mountain areas but I want to. I have had almost perfect service from my F150 and I don't want to hurt the truck. Thanks
#1 newbie mistake, using bogus dry weights. No trailer loaded for camping is close to that.
also loaded tongue weights are much higher.
what's your payload capacity and rear end ratio and what's the trailer's tongue weight.

Thanks bikendan, I'm sure that probably is a real mistake to go by the weights the company gives because they only want to sell campers, but these figures are the only ones I have to go by. Also this is the reason I'm posting the question, because I want to get experienced help from people like yourself. The tongue weight according to company specs is 495 pounds, but like you said, that is probably with a completely empty trailer, no allowance for LP gas or anything else. And by the way, I have not even hooked the camper to my truck yet because I didn't know the towing capabilities yet. Thanks
