Default F150 2022

Hi,

I have an F150 2022 4x4 truck and I use it to tow my wife's food trailer. I have some trailer sag and when looking at my rear leaf springs I notice they only have 2 springs. Would I be better to add a spring or add something like RAS® Suspension kit for the rear leaf spring or a SSA28 Supersprings helper spring?

I was hoping whatever I went with wouldn't affect my drive when we are not towing.

Thank You

Talk to us about the weight not only in the trailer but also the truck. Is trailer single or dual axle?

Hi, its dual axle. Not sure about the weight of my Ford though.

Define 'some sag'. You will certainly get some.
Given that a food truck seriously could have any type of tongue weight, it is really hard to give good advice on what is best. Seems the RAS is popular, if it will work, I do not know. Do yo have a picture you can share of the trailer connected to the truck? Do you use a weight distribution hitch that returns some weight back to the trucks front tires?

The 5.0 with 331 gears is probably the worst towing rig you could have gotten, except for the 6 cylinder non turbo.

What's the HP and Torque rating for you 2.7L? My 23" 5.0 is 400HP and 410 Ft Lbs of torque which should easily overcome the higher 3.31 locking rear axle for most towing other than close to the max. Then the 3.5 rules with 510 Ft Lbs of torque and same HP as mine.

It isn't about the peak torque or HP, it is about at what RPM you make it. No matter your bias, you should be able admit that the 5.0 with 331 is not set up as a tow rig. My 2.7l also has 373 gears, so there is that advantage as well. Did the 2.7 ever come with 331's?

Really I believe all 3 engines are well equipped to tow and for heavier towing close to the max limit higher gear ratios (3.55, 3.73, 4.10) are better. The Tow Haul mode and locking out the higher gears are options for towing heavier loads with the 3.31 locking rear axle as well. For heavier towing close to the max limit I would want a bigger engine than the Bronco, Lincoln engine which has to be worked really hard in a F-150 towing close to the max towing limit, but I am sure you MPG is significantly better than mine.

What do you tow, doing any regional camping, since we are located close by? I only tow a 3,300 pound high walled pop up camper at this point.

tsigwing: Nice setup. I think I'll get a small sized camper in a few years, my High Walled Pop Up has quiet a bit of room and features. But the setup and take down is kind of a pain, not something I would be want to be doing on a long cross country trip. Our favorite state camp grounds are in far East TX in the following order of preference: Atlanta, Daingerfield (Pictured) and Caddo Lake. https://tpwd.texas.gov/state-parks/parks-map
