I think this truck is primarily for nice big shinny EPA number to help drag the F150 averages up and help ford get less penalties.

I DON'T buy that the diesel will be more reliable. It's not the 1990's anymore where you had 6.5L diesels with like 200hp with no emissions equipment. Now the specific output of these diesel are literally 2x what they were even 15 years ago and they have to deal with the emissions equipment. Name one recent diesel that hasnt had some kind of issue or EPA scandal or has shown any signs that its any more reliable or less expensive to maintain than a gas motor.

The gas mileage arguement . . . . just do the math, an ecodiesel ram save you like $30 a month over an Ecoboost F150. Once the 2.7 gets the 10 speed that gap will shrink even more. When you are driving a $40,000+ truck paying for the loan, insurance, maintenance, gas, etc $30 is a drop in the bucket. That doesnt even consider the extra upfront cost of the diesel which would probably make up the $30 gas savings difference.

Unless you buy a no option XL or Tradesman, you cannot make an economic argument for a diesel 1/2 ton. In my eyes the diesel is really just a nice option that offers good daily drivability and OK towing capability but it is really just a luxury option. The problem is it doesnt offer much over the current gas motors. The ecoboost motors outperform the diesels at their own game(low end torque and towing power), GM's Ecotec V8's are right there with em, and the gas mileage savings really isnt there.

You could make an argument for the Colorado diesel because the only other options are NA V6's that are not particularly torquey, especially at the low RPM's, but if you watch TFL truck the V6 colorado absolutely demolishes the diesel up the ike gauntlet.
