Default Extra leaf spring?

Hi,

I haven't towed much with my F-150 (see in sig), but I'm wondering if I should be proactive and get an extra leaf spring installed.

I don't have the max tow package, but pretty much 90% of it.

● 3.55 Electronic-locking rear axle
● 4-pin/7-pin wiring harness
● Auxiliary transmission oil cooler
● Class IV trailer hitch receiver
● Pro Trailer Backup Assist (47E) with Tailgate LED (optional on XL Base)
● Smart Trailer Tow Connector (standard on Lariat and higher)
● Integrated Trailer Brake Controller

I don't what's into that upgraded rear bumper that is included in max tow...as the hitch is not fastened to the bumper, dunno why a better bumper would make a difference, unless I miss something.

Also, for the upgraded front stabilizer bar, it has to be useful, not too sure if I want to spend the money or not.

I want to tow a 21' to 25' Travel trailer, that's it. I got 9100 lbs of towing capacity with my actual package.

So...extra leaf or not?

I would try towing first and then see if you need it. On my '02 Silverado it needed more spring under the rear so I had one added and I was always happy with it. This truck tows more stable but it still sways a little bit so I am doing hitch adjustments etc. and if I need I will probably add air bags.

it'll be payload that limits you....so dry hitch weight is that....dry/new/empty....you start adding into trailer...water tank that all affects hitch weight....

I know my trucks limit is 10100lbs with payload of 1740lbs...would like to add a leaf too... not a spacer...need to find a 3 inch wide in a length that will work for me...

Steve,

Is that ok to say that the extra leaf add to payload capacity automatically?
If its the case, is there a way to calculate the gain?

not at all...ford builds and registers the trucks.....all it would do is help support/stiffen the rear....
