Erroneous Alerts While Towing
When starting out from a stop, I often times receive erroneous alerts while towing. Things like: Forward Collision Warning, Hill Start Assist Warning, and Hill Descent Control Fault Warning, sometimes Service Steering. This takes out several other functions, like cruise control and lane assist. When I stop the vehicle, and turn off truck and turn it back on, the alerts clear and most times I can start back out from a stop and the alerts don't recur until later.
Any ideas what may be causing this?

Same thing for me. Dealer told me is was because I had hardwired my dash cam into the inside fuse box. Said anything added to the fuse box will cause "communication" problems with the vehicle's computer. I called BS on that. Anyway, don't tow much so haven't really delved into the matter. A little research did bring up that the main wiring harness could be "pinched" when transferring weight to the front end using a weight distrubition hitch. Ford may have a TSB on that from what I gathered.
I’ve encountered this several times on my 17 xlt before realizing my rv dealership completely mangled my equalizer wdh setup. They had me setup with way too much tension on the spring bars. After I adjusted it properly the error sequence went away save for one time during my 2000 mile vacation to Colorado when I was pulling out of a gas station where the pavement had some dips and I was making a turn. It’s been my opinion that there’s nothing wrong with our trucks per se but that the sensors on these trucks are just really sensitive under certain conditions. It seems to be a fairly common occurrence based on a little reading here on the forum but haven’t been able to find anything definitive. I’d certainly be interested in hearing more ideas about this problem as well.
I had this happen on my trip out east this summer. I googled it and found out that I should lubricate my WDH. Bingo, problem solved instantly. I went from the warning messages occurring every time i pulled away from filling up gas, to NEVER again after the lubriication.
It has something to do with the WDH binding and throwing off the trucks systems.

Didn't happen to me while towing but it did when I had my ODBII reader plugged in. It was a OBDLinkMX. It started on like Day 3 of ownership last year. I don't leave it plugged in now (I used to run with with Torque). It was random, then when I got the truck washed. When it finally stalled out on me (luckily I was in a mini-storage lot going straight) I gave up on it. With that said, do you have a tuner or anything connected to the OBDII port? Dealer scanned it with their OBDII reader and found no codes set or pending. Told me it could be some communications bus error that could take months to track down a loose connector.
It was after all this I did add a power feed for my ham radios but came from the battery positive terminal and the closest frame ground from the battery. No problems with that.

I just got my truck back they ran some tests on the sensors and said they are all linked together they said that probably when we were driving I didn't have my WDH done properly and when I hit the gas or a dip in the road the front end of the truck lifted (unloaded) causing the sensor to detect a problem with the Rack sensor so Im off to get a trailer tongue scale to make sure my trailer is balanced and going to reset my WDH set-up and take it on a couple hundred Km ride and see how it works out will keep you posted

I have and Equalizer hitch, I just put some grease on the fittings that are on the head, where the bars slide into. Equalizer recommends greasing the hitch in this location, I just hadn't done it since it wasn't making any noise.
Like I said, as soon as I greased those fittings on the head, instantly my problem was gone.
