Equalizer Hitch Question
I have a equalizer hitch with the 4 point away control. I have everything all measured and adjusted following the owners manual. I have towed with this set up a few times and it works great on the express way and sway is very very minimal.
When I am backing up or making slow turn this hitch squeaks very loud. The sound is coming from the hitch bars sliding over the trailer mounts. I don't recall seeing this but am I supposed to put some grease there? I wasn't sure if this spot is greased up, will it take away some of the friction for the away control. The bars are pretty level with the trailer frame. Anyone have any ideas on this?

Yes they squeak. It's metal on metal friction that helps with sway.
Anything you do to reduce the noise will reduce the friction and reduce the sway control. If you go to the Equal-I-Zer web site, I believe they sell some pads that may help.

Yes, the Equalizer hitch can and needs to be greased....
Grab the manual from here: http://www.equalizerhitch.com/Equal-...structions.php
Basically you need to grease, using a bearing grease or their grease the swing arm points near the ball. Only grease that and the noise will mostly go away. Don't grease where the bars attach to the trailer!

Ours was a couple weeks old moaned and groaned like crazy. I took a look and it was a little rusty from the rain on a couple nights camping. Greased it up with some wheel bearing grease and it's been a lot quieter ever since. Still makes some noise but before it sounded like 100 years old.
The noise from the swing arm connections is minimal, the loud popping and squeaking is the hitch doing it's job with metal-to-metal contact under pressure where the swing arms slide on the L-brackets on the trailer tongue . After a while you get used to it and expect the sounds when turning, backing, or going over steep drives or speed bumps.
